Pembrokeshire's children are set to benefit from safer, better-equipped play areas after the county council confirmed it has deployed nearly £195,000 of Welsh Government Capital Grant funding to upgrade parks and outdoor spaces across the county.
The investment forms part of the council's Play Sufficiency Action Plan, a statutory requirement under Welsh law that obliges local authorities to assess and improve play opportunities for children and young people in their area.
Work delivered through the grant has focused on replacing ageing equipment, repairing existing installations and improving surfacing and infrastructure at a number of sites. Accessibility barriers that had been identified at several locations have also been tackled, with the aim of making play spaces more welcoming to children of all abilities.
The council worked alongside its own Parks Maintenance Team and local providers to direct spending towards sites where safety concerns had already been flagged, rather than spreading funds thinly across lower-priority locations.
Outdoor spaces made safer and more engaging
The grant money has enabled what the council describes as substantial investment in play environments throughout Pembrokeshire, creating what it says are safer, more accessible and more engaging places for children to play.
The improvements feed into the broader network of actions identified in the Play Sufficiency Action Plan, which the council is required to review and publish regularly under Welsh Government guidance.
