Milford Haven Fire Station will throw open its doors to the public this Wednesday, 12 August, for a free family open day organised by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, running from 11am until 4pm.
The event gives residents a rare chance to step behind the scenes of one of Pembrokeshire's busiest fire stations, a site that sits at the heart of a high-risk industrial area serving two oil refineries, a petrochemical storage plant and two liquefied natural gas facilities within five miles of the building on Yorke Street.
What's on the day
Visitors can expect live demonstrations throughout the five-hour programme alongside hands-on children's activities, refreshments and other family-friendly attractions. The open day is also billed as an opportunity to meet the wholetime and on-call crew members who protect the Milford Haven community day and night throughout the year.
The event carries a fundraising purpose alongside the community engagement. Any money raised on the day will be split between The Fire Fighters Charity, which supports serving and retired fire service personnel and their families, and Sandy Bear, the Pembrokeshire-based organisation that helps children and young people cope with bereavement.
The fire service is encouraging families and individuals from across the surrounding area to attend, describing the day as a chance to support both charities while enjoying a free afternoon out during the school summer holidays.
